Great set of guidelines, but since moving to Texas from the northwest, I have radically reduced my expectations for shelf life of pretty much anything, and am learning that if I don’t want to waste much, I have to buy tiny (and therefore pricier) quantities much more often (not incredibly convenient, since for much of the year walking or biking is HOT, and we’re a one-car household). The good thing is simply that it makes me pay better attention!! So I use a lot of the techniques you mention here, but for about half the time!

I definitely feel your pain on that kathryn! San Diego is pretty humid and I live by the beach, so stuff does seem to get weird a little faster over here too! Hard to keep things crispy :[
